| GAZ 66. The GAZ-66 is in use in the Russian armed forces, the former Soviet republics and to a lesser extent elsewhere. The machine is light and has good off-road capabilities. The earlier versions are petrol-engined, the later ones diesel. A civil version has also been produced. The main inconvenience for the driver is the very rear-mounted gearshift, which is awkward to handle and causes pain in the elbow joint after prolonged use. The machine is a successor of the GAZ-63. Series production took place from 1964 to 1999 and a total of 965 941 different modifications were produced. | |
